About the Author

Andrew P Weston was born in the city of Birmingham, UK and grew up in the towns of Bearwood and Edgbaston, eventually attending Holly Lodge Grammar School for Boy’s where he was School Captain and Head Boy.
He was an active sportsperson for the school and a variety of rugby, martial art, swimming, and athletics teams throughout the city.
On graduation in 1977, he joined the Royal Marines and served in a number of roles both in the UK and abroad.
In 1985 he joined the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, serving as a police officer in a variety of uniformed and plain clothed departments until his retirement in 2008.
Over those years, he wrote and illustrated a selection of private books for his children regarding the life of a tiny kitten, called, “The Adventures of Willy Whiskers”, gained further qualifications in Law and Religious Studies, was an active member of Mensa and continued to be an active sportsperson, providing lessons free of charge to local communities.
An unfortunate accident received on duty meant Andrew had to retire early from the police force, but after moving to the sunny Greek island of Kos to speed up his recuperation, he was at last able to devote time to the “Guardian Concept” he had developed over his years in the military and police.
When not writing, Andrew enjoys Greek dancing and language lessons, being told what to do by his wife, Annette, and hunting shadows in the dark. He has not managed to catch any yet, but is sure he came close on 2 occasions.

After the Wizard DVD Review

A 12-year-old orphan girl in modern day Kansas imagines that things have not gone well in Oz since the Wizard left and that the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman have come to find Dorothy.

Where to Buy

You can get you After the Wizard on Amazon for only $19.99.

Our Thoughts:

I have always loved the idea of retellings and sequels of the classics. I really wanted to love this film, but it just wasn't possible.  The story revolved around a little girl named Elizabeth who lives in an orphanage and believes she's Dorothy Gale. This in itself was not believable as fifty years have gone by and she hasn't aged.  Then the Scarecrow and Tin man show up in really corny costumes. I understand this is a low budget film, but really, I could have made better costumes myself.  I can't even say that I was impressed with most of the actors. The only one who was even slightly believable was the woman who plays the head of the orphanage. Most of the movie is a flashback of the travels of the tin man and scarecrow. Random people help them in their search for Dorothy, never wondering why these two guys are dressed like characters from the book. Everyone else if the world believes they are the real thing, yet the people at the orphanage think Elizabeth is crazy.  I really can't find any redeeming qualities in this film. I just can't recommend it.

Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 6 DVD Review

I have always been a fan of Agatha Christie. I have read many of her books, even though they would probably be considered "before my time". Most of the copies I have are yellowed with age, but a good story is timeless and Agatha Christie is a writer for all generations. But one thing I didn't know until recently is that Acorn has taken some of her characters and made them into their own television series.  Only the British could find a way to take a classic mystery novel and turn it into an equally entertaining series. And that is exactly what they've done with the Agatha Christie's Poirot. They have brought the Belgian Detective to life, right now to his classic mustache. And now you can get the DVDof  Series 6 of Poirot thanks to Acorn Media. Here is a little information about the release.

Newly remastered and restored to their original U.K. broadcast order, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Series 6 debuts on Blu-ray and arrives on DVD from Acorn Media on August 28, 2012. David Suchet stars as Agatha Christie’s mustachioed mystery-solver in these four feature-length episodes from the hit series. Poirot investigates the baffling cases with the help of Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser, Sharpe), Chief Inspector Japp (Philip Jackson, Little Voice), and Miss Lemon (Pauline Moran). Newly remastered, these editions capture every opulent detail of Art Deco-era Europe. Brimming with opulent 1930s period details and pitch-perfect performances, these lavish adaptations look better than ever in this remastered edition. ITV Studios’ Poirot has aired on ITV1 in the U.K. since 1989 and on PBS and A&E in the U.S. Series 6 previously aired in 1995-96. The 2-disc Blu-ray and 4-disc DVD sets include all four mysteries from Series 6, now with SDH subtitles ($49.99/$39.99, www.AcornOnline.com).

Series 6 guest stars include Damian Lewis (Homeland, The Forsyte Saga) in one of his first roles and Kate Buffery (Wish Me Luck).

THE MYSTERIES
(original U.K. broadcast order)
Hercule Poirot’s Christmas—The detective’s hopes for a quiet holiday are dashed when he must investigate a murder at a wealthy man’s country estate.
Hickory Dickory Dock—After making several errors at work,Miss Lemon confesses that she’s worried sick about a series of thefts at the hostel her sister runs. Damian Lewis co-stars.
Murder on the Links—Poirot’s reputation precedes him during a vacation in France, leading to his involvement in a case of abduction and murder.
Dumb Witness—When the premonitions of two sisters come to gruesome life,Poirot and Hastings solve a murder by communicating with a silent witness. Kate Buffery co-stars.

In this series, the story of the renown  is told in a way that Agatha Christie would be proud off. If you want to take advantage a whole set of great mysteries, this is the series for you. You can order Poirot Series 6 on DVD for only $39.99 at Acorn Media. Series 1-5 are also available for various prices.

Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball DVD Review & Giveaway

This summer, schools may be on vacation but the laughs sure aren’t as Cartoon Network brings to DVD an all-new world of unimaginable hilarity with its newest comedy release, The Amazing World of Gumball “The DVD” DVD. Packed with 12 episodes from series’ first season – including the titular episode “The DVD” – and a character gallery special feature, the compilation DVD follows the misadventures of 12-year-old Gumball. By all accounts, his world is pretty run-of-the-mill, as long as you think a blue cat with a giant head (Gumball) being chased around school by a T-Rex (Tina), befriending a piece of toast (Anton), hard-core crushing on a girl peanut with antlers (Penny) is normal! Marking the ratings-hit series’ home entertainment debut, The Amazing World of Gumball “The DVD” DVD will be available on August 28, 2012 for the suggested retail price of $14.97 and the order date of July 31, 2012.

Created by Ben Bocquelet and directed by Mic Graves, The Amazing World of Gumball is the first UK-produced full-length animated series out of Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe. Fueled by a combination of 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, the comedy series has garnered two 2011 BAFTA Awards for Writing and Animation, a 2012 Annie Award for Best Animated Television Production Children, and a 2012 Kidscreen Award for Best Animated Series; Best Animation; Best Kids Program (viewers choice award). Additionally, it has earned excellent critical acclaim from a variety of media sources, including Variety, which lauded it as “first-rate silliness.”

During its first season in the U.S., 19.8 million Kids 6-14 and 11.4 million Boys 6-14 tuned in to The Amazing World of Gumball.  Furthermore, it was the number one show in its timeslot for Boys 6-14. Fans of the series can watch episodes on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network, with the series’ second season premiering on August 14 at 7:00 p.m. (ET, PT).

Our Thoughts:

This show has special meaning in our family because we own a restaurant and my husband is a chef. Its actually a little scary how some of what happens, though exaggerated for entertainment, has a definite bases in reality in a kitchen. We even relate to the head chef's fairy wife because most would describe me as a little magical. The Amazing World of Gumball is definitely original and unique. It follows the crazy conquests of a chef in training. Most of his adventures involve magical experiences, like talking to his wisdom teeth or or having his dishes come to life which always leads to mayhem of some sort.  My kids were thrilled to have the DVD set which gives them a collection of some of their favorite episodes for the first time ever.  The animation is vivid and colorful and the characters will always leave you laughing.

Super Powers? Um…nope L Guest Blog By Alexia Purdy

So you think you can do it all? I know a lot of people who do and try their very best to slave-drive themselves to the ground until they collapse.  Well lately I have been faced with a lot more on my plate than I can handle and have sadly discovered, I’m falling behind! How did this happen? I am pretty much a procrastinator at heart anyway but to fall this behind that there is no hope to catch up, I think I might just stuff my head in the sand and pray it all goes away! BUT, I am also a driven person, so this is just another challenge for me too!

Like most people, I wear many hats. Yes I have the mom hat that has subcategories such as ‘slave’, ‘housekeeper’, ‘boo-boo healer’, ‘cook’ and then some. On the other hand, I am also a nurse, book reviewer and writer. I have no time. It’s all used up in the many avenues I have chosen to do. It’s okay though. I love every second of it. Thought it tests me in every way: mentally, physically and emotionally, I wouldn’t change it for anything.

My point being and this is just a reinforcement of an awesome snippet of advice for anyone: it’s okay to not do everything and be superwoman. It’s exhausting to keep up and it ends in disappointment many times and frustration. I think it’s time to slow down. Not sure how but I might slow down on book reviews, less social media and enjoy my free time as much as possible. It’s okay. It will help me stay sane to continue this amazing and crazy journey that I have gotten to experience through writing stories. Sometimes it’s time to submerge back into life in other ways. Don’t forget to take care of yourself! It can only help.

Superwoman? I don’t quite think so, but it’s a super life indeed. J

Questioning her true role of power, Shade discovers the cost of winning may come at a much higher price than she ever imagined.
About the Author:
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada- Sin City!!! I love to spend every free moment writing, or playing with my four rambunctious kids.  Working as an RN currently to fund my dream career of writing.  I devour books daily, especially paranormal fantasies and find genre books and independantly published books to be irresistible.  I've has been writing since I can remember (probably since the age of 6) and love creating paranormal urban fantasy and poetry.
I review books too and highly support all authors. I also enjoy watching movies, dancing, singing loudly in the car and Italian food (yum).

Excerpt 1:
"Look!" Soap yelled out as he pulled Shade out of her reverie. She followed to where he was pointing. Her eyes widened as she stared at the scene opening before them. Molten lava was now spewing from cracks splitting the ground and spreading across the earth atop the slope.
"What's going on?" Shade called out in surprise, wiping the last of her tears away. "Where's that coming from?" It was Shade's turn to grip onto Soap's arm, her eyes wide with fear. Her hands shook as she glanced at the other warriors, waiting for them to decide what to do or where to go.

Back to School Must Have - Hoodie Pet Review & Giveaway

Its time to head back to school. Soon the days will be getting cooler, and we'll want to bundle up our kids in warm and cozy fleece. The only problem is, that some little ones don't like being covered up. My two younger children would run around naked all year if they could. Its always a struggle to get them dressed. Luckily, Hoodie Pets has found a way to make it fun for kids to get dressed and ready for the fall. Hoodie Pets are adorable fleece hoodies that come with their own detachable stuffed animal.

For our review, Willow picked out the tiger Hoodie Pet. It is made from the softest black fleece that I know will keep my daughter warm on all of our fall outings. You will notice right away that there's something special about this sweatshirt. There is an adorable stuffed tiger attached to the front of the shirt. It is easy to detach for cleaning or if your kids decide they want to play with it. Yet the Velcro holds it firmly in place no matter how much kids run and play. My daughter loved her hoodie. She wants to wear it all the time, and she would even sleep in it if I let her.

The tiger is only one example of the adorable Hoodie Pets available. Choose from dogs, bears, bunnies, zebras and more in a variety of fashionable colors and sizes. Prices range from around $29.99 to $32.99. If you would like to get an adorable Hoodie Pet, they are available on their website. While you're visiting, be sure to let your kids check out some of the fun and free activities. With kids heading back to school this week, a Hoodie Pet is the perfect way to spice up your child's wardrobe for the new school year.

One lucky winner is going to receive Hoodie Pet in the size and style of their choice. To enter, just fill in the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway will end on 9/17/12. The winner will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to reply. Thanks again to Hoodie Pets for offering this fantastic prize.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway - Desert Rice by Angela Scott

Synopsis:
Samantha Jean Haggert is a beautiful twelve-year-old girl—but no one knows it. All they see is an awkward boy in a baseball cap and baggy pants. Sam’s not thrilled with the idea of hiding her identity, but it’s all part of her older brother’s plan to keep Sam safe from male attention and hidden from the law. Fifteen-year-old Jacob will stop at nothing to protect his sister, including concealing the death of the one person who should have protected them in the first place—their mother.

Sam and Jacob try to outrun their past by stealing the family car and traveling from West Virginia to Arizona, but the adult world proves mighty difficult to navigate, especially for two kids on their own. Trusting adults has never been an option; no adult has ever given them a good reason. But when Sam meets “Jesus”—who smells an awful lot like a horse—in the park, life takes a different turn. He saved her once, and may be willing to save Sam and her brother again, if only they admit what took place that fateful day in West Virginia. The problem? Sam doesn’t remember, and Jacob isn’t talking.

Desert Rice Excerpt

I was mighty grateful that he covered her up, especially when he said that death made a person look frightful, and that I shouldn't even attempt to look.
Yeah, no problem there.
"Just do it or I'll clock you upside your head." He bent down and placed his hands under her arms to get a good grip. "Grab 'er feet, and when I say lift, you'd better lift, or else."
I wanted to tell him to leave me alone, and that just because he was older than me didn’t give him the right to tell me what to do, but his warning look kept me from saying a word. I bent over to take hold of her feet and accidently breathed in the acidic smell of decay, alcohol, and cheap perfume permeating from the sheet.
Bile burned in my throat, and my eyes stung and began watering. I rolled my shoulders forward when my stomach lurched, but despite my body's mad attempt to force me to puke my guts out, only dry heaves followed, over and over. It took a while for the waves of nausea to settle, but my head swam in dizziness and my body ached—boy, did I hurt. My legs wobbled and my insides twisted and cramped, but I didn't throw up. Once the dry heaving stopped, I swiped the back of my hand over my mouth to remove a fine thread of spittle from my lips.
"I'm sorry." Jacob's face softened, though he continued to hold onto Mama's shoulders, letting me know we still needed to move a dead body. "I really am."
"Whatever." I gave in, bending and grabbing my dead mama's ankles. "Let's do this."

Author Bio
I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of
medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it
into a book. I’m not crazy. I’m an author. For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels.
However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies
terrorizing the Wild Wild West—and loving it. My zombies don’t sparkle, and they definitely don’t
cuddle. At least, I wouldn’t suggest it.
I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a
very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because
of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn’t require math. I can’t spell,
and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.
As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I’ve been writing that long. It has only
been the past few years that I’ve pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded
individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.
You can find me at my website, where I blog obsessively about my writing process and post updates on
my current works. I’m also on Twitter and Facebook, but be forewarned, I tweet and post more than a

Guest Post by Linda Andrews Author of Brianna

Do you remember the first romance novel you ever read?

I do. Vividly. I was just beginning high school when the movie Romancing the Stone came out. Wow! I watched that movie six times. Here was everything I was hoping for--action, adventure, intrigue, mystery, humor and a love story in one package.

The next time I went to the library, I looked for the book but didn't find it. Undeterred, I went to Walden's Books and there it was. I immediately checked it out and read it from cover to cover. Again and again and again. I reread it in college and when I was pregnant with my children and when I was in the emergency room or hospital.

I was a convert to the power of happily ever after.

And from then on, I zigged away from the mysteries and zagged toward the romance section of my local library.

I wasn't until much later that I realized how lucky I was to have a library that was friendly toward the genre. It still boggles my mind that some folks don't appreciate romance novels.

What's not to love about strong women facing adversity and triumphing? What's wrong with the belief that there are people who will love you for who you are and not try to change you? What's wrong with believing that a person could be the most special person in the world to someone?

And don't get me started on the sex.

I'll admit that I'm a book lover. I love to read and I'll slip between the pages of almost any genre. I have over 300 ebooks on my kindle app, 25 on my Nook app and I'm afraid to open my ibooks app. I also have a pdf convertor for those books I win on blogs.

But it is the romance genre that draws me back again and again. If I'm having a hard day--a romance will pick me up. If my kids are fighting, I can retreat to exotic locations like the Bayou or a cowboy ranch in Montana in a romance. Why? The stories may put me through an emotional ringer but I'll always end up smiling in the end--guaranteed.

Could it get any better than that?

So what draws you to the genre that you read?

Since the story featuring my Victorian heroine's journey to Egypt has been subjected to Murphy's Law, my publisher has graciously agreed to put the ebook featuring her parents' love story.
